Put a lid on it!

February 28, 2008 at 7:36 pm (accessories, fashion) (, , , , , , )

I will be the first to admit, I look horrible in hats! I own one, it’s my camping hat, it’s old and ugly but it covers my hair when I’m out roughing it. Surprisingly there are people who look fabulous in hats so I thought I would explore the world of hats since they are fast becoming an important accessory. New York Magazine says they are (almost) the new bags!

There are so many hats we can’t cover them all, but here are a few of the classic looks:

  • The Sunday hat (as I call it), it’s an oversized hat that women can wear in the spring or summer, it makes you look expensive and classy when paired with a flowing dress.

  • The Boy hat, like a fedora, it’s more structured and usually in a felt material, a girl has to be confident to look feminine in this!

  • Then there is the poor boy hat, it’s small and floppy on top with a small brim.

  • And then there is the classic ball cap,  I think this type of hat should be restricted to those lazy hair days when you’re wearing jeans, please don’t wear those large trucker style hats… those are NOT in style and even when they were they look HORRIBLE and made people look excessively trashy!!

Burberry!

February 27, 2008 at 7:40 pm (accessories, bags, style) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I LOVE designer bags and Burberry happens to be one of those highly recognizable brands. With the signature plaid fabric and European inspiration, they’re hard to pass up.

They have everything, from the classic tote above to scarf, hats, sunglasses, clothing and even perfume. All the products give a little British inspiration. Their bags for me though are too much money for what you get, they range from about $1000 – $3000 (although there are a few cheaper and a few more expensive). Just be careful what you wear the purse with, it would be easy to clash a plaid purse with an outfit

The perfume ranges from $35 – $900 …yes $900 for the Burberry Brit Crystal fragrance.

Baby Fashion

February 27, 2008 at 12:52 am (fashion) (, , , , , , , , , )

As we all know babies are in abundance in Hollywood, and trends there trickle down onto the rest of us. So I thought I would focus on dressing your baby designer! I know it’s kind of ridiculous since the baby will only wear the $400 shirt for a couple weeks before they out grow it but for people with large disposable incomes it is a trend that is growing each day.

Look at these adorable Gucci shoes for toddlers, who probably can’t even walk yet.

I would be scared for my kid to spill on these expensive bibs!

Besides expensive clothing you can also carry the diapers in a designer bag, Gucci, Coach, Louis Vuitton,  take your choice they all have great diaper bag, so you can be the parent on the go and in style. This is probably the only designer thing I would buy, the baby can’t outgrow this bag and it actually serves a purpose!

Academy Awards Past Fashion

February 22, 2008 at 1:58 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , )

With the Academy Awards fast approaching I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the fabulous fashions from past years.

2005_berryh_03.jpg

2005: Sleek and iridescent, HALLE BERRY’s couture was Atelier Versace. The silk chiffon, asymmetric gown was uniquely combined with a vintage embroidered skirt. Her diamond-encrusted shoes were Stuart Weitzman.

2004: Surprise, surprise, Angelina Jolie, what doesn’t she look fabulous in?? She was in a white silk satin gown by Marc Bouwer. The halter style was sexy with front drape and long back tie. A stellar jewelry choice was H. Stern’s “Athena” necklace

And we can’t talk about red carpet fashion without looking at some of the most unfortunate styles:

A history-making creation from designer Marjan Pejoski, who wrapped a feathered swan’s neck around BJÖRK and layered white tulle for a tutu-like skirt. Not too sure what she was thinking!!

Keisha Castle-Hughes, ooops! She looks like a nun in this outfit…created from layers of pink silk satin topped off with a sheer capelet. She used the whale theme for good luck and chose a whale-shaped hair clip for her side-parted hairdo by Frederic Fekkai.

Designer Spotlight: Ralph Lauren

February 21, 2008 at 4:47 am (fashion) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Ok so winter is barely finished and already the designers are releasing their 2008 Fall and Winter collections! He wrapped up the Fashion week, check out this blog for more information on the fashion week details!

Ralph Lauren went classic, with vintage style hats, simple makeup and plaid was a reoccurring theme.

He included many heavy fabrics, looser fitting items with ponchos and great boots in reds and black.

He also had a few great dresses, again focusing on the plaid theme, in great rich colours, still sexy but subdued colour and materials for the fall season.

Check out his runway highlights here.

My Must Have Makeup Item!

February 20, 2008 at 6:27 am (Makeup, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , )

My pick of the week:

Every girl has one beauty item they could not live without, mine happens to be Mac’s Mascara X. It retails for only $15 and is by far one of the best mascaras out there and comes in brown and black. It has a slight roses scent and leaves your eyelashes fuller, longer and softer! No crispy eyelashes here!

Remember all mascaras are not created equally! Some flake off all over, some make your lashes feel like they are covered in lacquer, the good thing about mac is that you can try the item and if it’s not what you like you can return the item (along with your receipt for something else).

Coach, more new bags!

February 15, 2008 at 9:07 pm (bags) (, , , , , , , , )

If you haven’t guessed it yet, I love Coach, whenever they get something new I want it! Recently they brought in new Striped Bags, classic coach look with a stripe of coloured leather! They are fabulous and are great colours for the upcoming spring season. (too bad the closest Coach store to me is in Vancouver, the picture here is from when I was in Van last summer)

They have every size from their tote sized bags pictured above ($268 US), to their small pink pouch ($135 US) pictured below.

Look Sexy for your Valentine!

February 14, 2008 at 6:52 pm (undergarments) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

First of all Happy Valentines Day! With the holiday of love here I thought I would focus on lingerie, how to look hot for your boyfriend / husband / significant other / or a complete random (I’m non judgemental).

Lingerie can help you spice up your love life, make you feel sexy and make your mate want you ever more! A couple places I love are Victoria secret (of course!), La Senza (it’s been taken over by VS) and SHE on 17th Ave in Calgary. I will list a few of the classic examples of sexy lingerie:

  • babydoll.jpg Babydolls, they are tight fitted up top and flare away from the body, they can be lace or other materials like satin and chiffon, they are flattering on almost all body types, the one shown here is form VS and retails for $34.50!
  • garder.jpg Then there are sets, either with bras or in this case a lace slip with the garter belt and stockings, this is a very classic style dating back to the Early ages, it’s sexy and seductive, this one retails for $58.50, you could also do a corset top with matching panties and the garters. This style is versatile but much more form fitting, it would be a great style for the sassy girl with curves!
  • la-senza.jpg This is a classic bustier from La Senza, it retails for $59.50 and comes in a very seasonal red, or classic black, it will lift and contour your boobs but the lack of coverage means you have to be very comfortable in your body to wear this!

Mac’s New Campaign to fight AIDS!

February 12, 2008 at 5:58 pm (Makeup, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Not only does Mac make you look good but now you can buy …. lip gloss and feel good about it too. I think this is a fabulous campaign of theirs that has been going on for a few years, started with Ru Paul. It gives people a chance to help out towards a good cause while wearing lip gloss personally selected by Fergie ( well I don’t like her that much, or at all actually but the colour is really nice).

They’ve selected a neutral colour that looks good on all skin tones / races. Watch for it for sale soon!
